about

The songs on X Marks the Spot were written after a 17-year void of composing. Zory Zenith, my co-writer, was in prison on a ten year stretch. Thinking my well had run dry, I was amazed in 2003 when I wrote Astro Tots. After that, it seemed like every day I was composing the rest of the XMS songs and writing the lyrics like back in the day of the Horizon Suite.

They feature Sci-fi Glam, Elfin Power Pop, a little dessert and even a vacation. The title song became so obvious it only took 30 years to realize X does mark the spot! Back in Hollywood captures the raw essence of proto-punk with a metal edge. I’m Plugged In was originally written in 1976 called Bicentennial Rock. The lyrics for Saucers on Sunset came in a letter from Zory who had written them in prison.

So fire up your Retro Rockets and come with us on a Hyper Space ride.

The novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald said “There are no second acts in American lives,” but he had not yet encountered Zolar X, a band bigger than America. Bigger even, than earth itself.
Their forty year-plus career, until now, was one of the great untold stories of modern pop culture... - Ben Myers
